How I Found Happiness

Hello and Welcome! I’m Kathy, Founder of Ladies Against The Grain

Hey there,

I’m Kathy Hubler, and my story starts in New York City, 2005. After years of schooling, hustling, and trying to make my way in the hospitality industry, I finally landed a spot at a top NYC restaurant. I thought I was living the dream! But then I had a rude awakening — I suddenly found myself unhappy and struggling — emotionally, mentally, and physically. My dream job wasn’t as dreamy as I had hoped.

While dealing with my own issues, my co-workers would come to me with their problems (which of course, I was happy to oblige). See, for as long as I can remember, people have come to me looking for something — advice, help, my opinion, you name it. But now I was balancing my own emotional needs with the needs of my co-workers. After 4 long years, I finally left.

Only, I wasn’t entirely sure where I was going. So I researched. And googled. And read books. That’s when I found Life Coaching and enrolled in the Foundations Course at the Institute for Life Coach Training (ILCT). It was life changing, and I was hooked! And while I learned all the skills to be a great coach to others, one of the first things I learned was about myself: I didn’t want to live in New York City anymore. I realized that I wasn’t connecting with the city that had brought me so much excitement before. It shook me to my core because I hadn’t considered this as part of my problem, but honestly, it was a HUGE step forward.

After two years of training, I became certified as a Life Coach through ILCT in the spring of 2015. With my newfound skills, experience and empowerment, I was able to take a leap of faith and move across the country, where I’ve found a new life and a happier, more positive outlook.

This is probably a good time to share my education and experience:

  • BA in The Science and Culture of Foods of Italy at Indiana University

  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America

  • Certified Life Coach through the Institute for Life Coach Training

  • Certified Career Transitions Coach through Coach Training Alliance

  • Certified Executive Leadership Development Coach through The Academies

  • 200+ Hours of Yoga Teacher Training

  • Over 20 years of restaurant industry experience

  • Transitioned careers to full-time Career Consultant & Coach

These days I live and LOVE my life in Olympia, Washington.

It’s taken me over 20 years to realize where I’m supposed to be, and what I’m supposed to do, but I’m here now. And I’m proud to say that I’m living a life that is authentic, positive, courageous, and limitless.

Sadly, my story is not a unique one (I imagine if you’re reading this, it may sound familiar), but it does have a happy ending. Your story can have a happy ending, too. I found my happiness by going against the grain and discovering what I was destined to do. Let’s work together to break out of your everyday doldrums and figure out how to get you to where you’re supposed to be too!
